Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

This section will assist you in making sure the prerequisites are installed on your desktop, laptop or Pocket-PC and may answer other questions you might have. Whether you are running Microsoft Windows Vista or Microsoft Windows XP on the desktop or laptop, the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 is required. Windows Vista comes with the .NET Framework already installed. On Windows XP, you may need to download the .NET Framework from Microsoft. Your Pocket-PC may also need the .NET Compact Framework 2.0.

Installing .NET Framework 2.0 on the Desktop or Laptop

Q: How do I install the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 on my computer?

A: Follow these instructions to get the Framework installed.

  1. On the PC, open Internet Explorer and go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/.
  2. At the top of the screen, you will find Search All Downloads.
  3. Enter .NET Framework 2.0 in the search field to the right and then click the Go.
  4. In the results displayed, find .NET Framework 2.0 Redistributable Package and click the link.
  5. Click the Download button and then click Save to save the dotnetfx.exe file on your desktop.
  6. Make sure the Pocket-PC is connected to the desktop and then click the dotnetfx.exe to install the .NET Framework 2.0.

Installing .NET Compact Framework 2.0 on the Pocket-PC

Q: When I tried to install the PDA client on the Pocket-PC, it did not install or did not launch. Why?

A: The Pocket-PC doesn’t have the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 2.0 installed. Follow these instructions to get the Framework installed.

  1. On the PC, open Internet Explorer and go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/.
  2. At the top of the screen, you will find Search All Downloads.
  3. Enter .NET Compact Framework 2.0 in the search field to the right and then click the Go.
  4. In the results displayed, find .NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP1 Redistributable and click the link.
  5. Click the Download button and then click Save to save the NETCFSetupv2.msi file on your desktop.
  6. Make sure the Pocket-PC is connected to the desktop and then click the NETCFSetupv2.msi to install the .NET Compact Framework 2.0.

Note: If the PC shows to have installed the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 on the Pocket-PC, but the PDA client will not launch, the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 is not on the Pocket-PC.  You must put the Pocket-PC in the cradle, uninstall .NET Compact Framework 2.0 from the PC, and then reinstall it to get it installed on the Pocket-PC.  Simply reinstalling on the PC it will not install it on the Pocket-PC.
